Beaver Creek Horse Camp - Stanley Basin in central Idaho

Beaver Creek Horse Camp is located in the beautiful Stanley Basin, northeast of Boise, Idaho and is accessed by State Highway 21 from Boise through Lowman. This stretch of Highway 21 is also known as the Ponderosa Pine Scenic Byway. IT IS GORGEOUS!  Beaver Creek Horse Camp can also be reached from southeast Idaho by taking State Highway 75 through the Ketchum/Sun Valley area and to the north, turning onto Highway 21 at Stanley and continuing northwest.

The turnoff to Beaver Creek is near Banner Summit (between mileposts 112 and 113 on Hwy 21).  Watch for the sign to Seafoam Area/Bradley Boy Scout Camp/Lola Creek Campground and turn off the highway to the north.  Take the right fork toward the Scout Camp and proceed 2-3 miles.  Continue past the entrance to the Boy Scout Camp and cross the bridge.  The Horse Camp will be directly on your left and the Forest Service Beaver Creek Campground will be on your right.

The Horse Camp has a loading ramp, hitching rails, highline tie trees, and room to pull several rigs onto the grassy area.  There is also a large parking lot adjoining the camp area.  Beaver Creek runs right along the area.  There is also a fire ring for campfires.  (Please note that during High Fire Danger, visitors should be aware of any local restrictions on campfires. This area is part of the Challis National Forest and they will have info on Fire Restrictions.)

The riding is great and even though we were there on Labor Day weekend, it was not dusty at all.  One can ride on the open road (very light traffic) or venture off through the trees on each side of the road.  There are also several open meadow areas available to ride across.

There are at least two trails that lead into mountain lakes.  The going is a steady climb, rocky and sometimes on a steep slope.  But the views are gorgeous once you get on top!

There is also a delightful ride out of camp. This is an absolutely wonderful loop ride with lots of beautiful scenery.  It takes about 1-1/2 to 2 hours.  Great places for a picnic lunch along the way if you want to spend a little more time.  From the Horse Camp, take the road back across the bridge and turn onto the road to the Boy Scout Camp, proceed up that road and stay to the left.  This road will lead you to several small lakes.  A narrow trail goes around the lakes (have your camera ready!) and eventually comes out at a creek.  Cross the creek, follow it to your left and you will eventually come to a big meadow.  The meadow is marshy in places, but if you stay on the open/dry areas and cross the meadow you will come to a road and by turning left it leads back to the Horse Camp.  Camp is about two miles from here.
